- learn how to prepare usucha 薄茶 (light ceremonial grade matcha) using a chashaku 茶杓 (bamboo scoop), chasen 茶筅 (whisk), and chawan 茶碗 teabowl.
- participants make their own matcha
- fold origami star box for dorayaki どら焼き(sweet bean cake)
Your guide,LaMonte Heflick,is a Certified Saké Professional (ASP Saké Education Council Feb 2014). Also, a tea enthusiast, LaMonte has done presentations on tea in the Elkhart middle schools, as well as, for the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association in Indianapolis, IN. For two years LaMonte lived and worked in Japan at Toyota トヨタ自動車. Before retiring he was a speech-language pathologist in Elkhart, Indiana and taught Introduction to Japanese and Chinese languages.
